Some links to vendors on this page are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, the vendor may pay us a commission. How we handle this

Attribution software tries to answer one question: which ads and channels led to each order. Every option below answers it differently, and the gap between a free report and a platform listed from $1,500.00 is mostly about how many channels it sees, how it splits credit between them, and whether it sends better data back to the ad platforms.

Prices are each vendor's listed prices on October 25, 2026, except Triple Whale, where we say what we could confirm on November 5. Several vendors price by revenue, orders or pageviews, so check with your own numbers.

Three kinds of tool

  1. What you already have. Shopify's marketing reports, GA4 and each ad platform's own reporting. Free, but each sees only part of the journey, and ad platforms count conversions their own way.
  2. Attribution platforms. Triple Whale, Northbeam, Polar Analytics and Lebesgue's Le Pixel run their own first-party pixel and offer several attribution models; Hyros uses its own tracking script. All of them follow customers across channels and credit orders to ads.
  3. Server-side tracking. Elevar, AnyTrack and wetracked.io. Their main job is sending conversion events to Meta, Google, TikTok and other platforms through their conversion APIs. AnyTrack and wetracked.io include reports; Elevar's pricing page lists tracking and data-quality features.

You need the first in any case. The other two answer different problems, covered in "How to choose" below.

What Shopify and GA4 already give you

Shopify's marketing reports have five attribution models: last non-direct click (the default), last click, first click, any click and linear. They include cross-device data. All five are click-based, so an ad view that didn't lead to a click gets no credit.

GA4 has three models in its attribution reports: data-driven, paid and organic last click, and Google paid channels last click. Direct visits get no credit unless the whole path is direct.

With two or more ad platforms, each platform can claim credit for the same order. Shopify's "any click" model shows the effect: it gives every clicked channel full credit, so the total is more than your actual orders. Splitting that credit is the problem attribution platforms are built for.

Triple Whale

Free plan, paid plans by quote

Attribution, dashboards and BI, Sonar for sending data to ad and email platforms, and an AI agent in one product. Its own pricing page shows no prices and ties price to annual GMV, and paid plans run for 12 months. Its App Store listing showed Foundation at $219.00 a month on October 25, but we couldn't confirm that on November 5, so ask for a quote.

Northbeam

From $1,500.00

Attribution and media buying: seven models, modeled and platform-verified view-through and two accounting modes. Starter is month-to-month for Shopify brands.

Polar Analytics

From $510.00/mo

Gives each brand its own Snowflake database with dashboards and multi-touch attribution on top, so you can also query the data yourself.

Hyros

Price by quote

Focused on long customer journeys: reorders, subscription rebills and sales that close on a call. A setup team installs it, and the price is quoted on a call.

Lebesgue

Free plan, paid from $79.00/mo

Profit and ad dashboards (Lebesgue says analytics pricing is fixed regardless of store size), with a separate Le Pixel plan for attribution. Also works with WooCommerce.

For head-to-head detail, see Northbeam vs Triple Whale, Hyros vs Triple Whale and the longer list of Triple Whale alternatives.

If you mostly want a net profit number rather than attribution, cheaper apps do that job. See Shopify profit apps compared.

Server-side tracking tools

These sit under your reporting. They collect events on your site and send them to ad platforms through their conversion APIs.

ElevarFree (100 orders); from $225.00/moOrders and destinations
AnyTrackFree (5,000 sessions); from $100.00/moSessions
wetracked.ioFrom $49.00/moOrders

Elevar (now sold as Audiense Online) also builds the data layer for Google Tag Manager and Shopify's Web Pixel. AnyTrack connects to more than 90 affiliate networks as conversion sources. wetracked.io forwards events to the pixels you already have on Meta, TikTok, X, Pinterest, Snapchat and Google Ads. The server-side tracking guide compares these with Littledata, Analyzify, Stape, TrackBee and Shopify's own Meta integration.

What we saw on 245 Shopify stores

On October 25, 2026 we loaded the home page of 245 Shopify stores (and a product page on 211 of them) and recorded the tracking requests each page sent by itself. We didn't click anything, add to cart, accept or reject cookie banners, or send any events. 96 of them came from Meta's Ad Library (stores running Meta ads in October 2026) and the other 149 are well-known DTC brands, so the sample leans toward larger brands. Many of them ran Triple Whale, Elevar or Northbeam, and one ran Hyros.

195 of the 245 sent browser events to Meta, GA4 or TikTok that we could see. Stores that sent none may send them server-side or only after cookie consent, so they're left out of the percentages below.

  • Duplicate events were common. 57 of the 195 stores (29%) sent the same page-level event, a page view or a product view, to the same pixel or measurement ID at least twice during one page load. Most were GA4: 51 of the 183 stores with GA4. Spot checks found two patterns: one GA4 tag sending page_view twice, and two separate GA4 installs on the same page, each with its own visitor ID.
  • Missing product views were less common. On product pages, 25 of 166 stores (15%) had at least one platform record the page view but not the product view (ViewContent or view_item). TikTok was the most frequent case, at 15 of 46 stores.
  • Running an attribution tool didn't go with cleaner tracking. Stores where we saw requests to Triple Whale, Elevar, Northbeam or Hyros (109 with visible events) had duplicates on 27% and missing product views on 13%. Stores where we saw none of them (86) were at 33% and 17%. This isn't a test of the tools, since stores using them may differ in size and setup, but those stores weren't clearly cleaner.

Limits: one visit per store, from a server in Japan; events that run server-side or wait for consent don't show up; the groups are small (28 Northbeam stores had visible events), so a gap of a few points is noise. We detected tools from network requests, so one running only on a server would be missed. Where Meta or TikTok sent an event ID, hits sharing that ID counted once; we found no event ID on GA4 hits, so every repeat counted. Store names aren't published. The full tables and method are in our study of tracking on 245 Shopify stores.

Before installing an attribution tool, load one page of your store with GA4 DebugView or Meta's Test Events open and count the page view events. If there are two, fix that first, or the page view counts stay inflated whatever the new tool reports.

How to choose

Our take, based on what each vendor offers:

  • One ad platform, modest spend: Shopify's reports, GA4 and the platform's own reporting are often enough. Fix tracking problems before paying for anything.
  • Ad platforms under-count your conversions: look at a server-side tool first. Entry plans are listed from $49.00 to $225.00 a month, and the vendors say they send ad platforms more complete conversion events.
  • Two or more paid channels and meaningful spend: trial an attribution platform. Triple Whale (free plan to start, then ask for pricing) or Lebesgue as a starting point; Northbeam or Polar as spend grows.
  • Subscriptions, high-ticket products or call-based sales: include Hyros in the comparison.

Whatever you choose, run it next to your current reports for a few weeks and compare against Shopify orders on the same attribution model before trusting its numbers.

Common questions

Does Shopify have built-in attribution?

Yes. Shopify's marketing reports offer five attribution models (last non-direct click, which is the default, plus last click, first click, any click and linear) and include cross-device data. All five are click-based, so an ad view without a click gets no credit.

What's the cheapest multi-touch attribution for Shopify?

Among the tools here that list a price for multi-touch attribution, Polar's Business Intelligence product is $510.00 a month for stores under $5M GMV, and Lebesgue's Le Pixel attribution plan is $749.00 a month. Hyros is by quote, and Northbeam lists Starter at $1,500.00 with a quote. Triple Whale doesn't list a price on its own site, where it says price depends on annual GMV. Its Shopify App Store listing showed Foundation at $219.00 a month on October 25, but we couldn't confirm that on November 5. Shopify's own linear model costs nothing but only counts clicks.

Do I need server-side tracking as well as an attribution tool?

They do different jobs. Attribution tools report which ads drove sales. Server-side tracking tools such as Elevar or AnyTrack send more complete conversion data to Meta, Google and TikTok so their bidding works better. Some attribution platforms also send data back (Triple Whale's Sonar Optimize, Northbeam's Apex, Hyros), so check before paying for both.

How long should I test an attribution tool before deciding?

Long enough to cover a full buying cycle for your products, and at least a few weeks of normal spend. Compare the tool's numbers against your Shopify orders on the same attribution model before comparing tools with each other.
